When you think performance Porsche, the nameplate GT3 surely comes to the forefront of the mind for any automotive enthusiast. It is hard to believe that this famous derivative of the 911 has only been around since the release of the 996.1 GT3 back in 1999, a year where VHS was becoming obsolete, Britney Spears was top of the charts and kids were fighting over rare Pokémon cards.
The 2nd generation of the 996 GT3 featured a more aggressive overall look with differing front and rear bumpers as well as upgraded performance, boasting an impressive 381bhp from the 3.6 litre flat 6 engine. It is believed that a reported 246 Gen 2 examples of the 996 GT3 entered the UK via Porsche Cars Great Britain, but the mix of Comfort and Clubsport specification was not officially recorded. Even without the confirmed number of Comfort spec UK cars, it is clear to see the rarity of this example.
Whilst the close synergy between 911 and GT3 has been ever present for 23 years, it is staggering to believe that this 996 GT3 Gen 2 car is pushing towards its 20th birthday. The beautiful condition of the black leather interior and the ‘original smell’ of this Comfort spec example truly take you back to the noughties!
Delivered new on the 4th of January 2005 through Porsche Centre Silverstone this 996 GT3 was supplied in Basalt black metallic and black leather interior, with the following options:
XX1 – Leather edged floor mats
375 & 376 – Electric sports seats
441 – Radio preparation
539 & 540 – Mechanical seat-height adjustment
567 – Top tinted windscreen
573 – Automatic air conditioning
697 – CD-radio Becker Porsche CDR-23
We can confirm that the GT3 presents with all original panels and paintwork, all stickers are in the correct places, suggesting this car has not followed suit to many other Nordschleife orientated 911’s that have sadly been lost of the years. It has led a very sheltered garaged life and covered almost of all its mileage in the first 3 years. MOT history provides a documented history of its low mileage. Service history as below:
30/06/2005 – Porsche Centre Sheffield – 10,558 miles
20/12/2006 – Porsche Centre Colchester – 19,547 miles
02/11/2017 – Porsche Centre Colchester – 22,039 miles
16/06/2021 – William Francis – 22,312 miles
This example has had a few subtle changes undertaken back in its early life, when the importance on keeping them to standard specification wasn’t the same as it is now. We welcome a further discussion to revert these items and any desired light preparation work.
We can confirm that the car has been fitted with KW 3-way adjustable suspension with remote reservoirs, RS front bumper with cutouts, carbon Manthey style engine lid scoop and 993 RS centre caps – nothing irreversible. The car drives as you would expect a GT3 of this vintage without being too bumpy or having a strong trackday geo set up applied.
Others than these minor additions the car remains in remarkable original condition throughout and would stand proud at any concours or no doubt perform faultlessly around the ‘Green Hell’.
